What is Web 2.0? Web 2.0 has been recognized as the second generation of the World Wide Web. One of the most obvious differences in 2.0 and the www is the movement away from static webpages to dynamic and shareable content and social networking. AKA the Read/Write Web
Audio.jpg Vocaroo - A simpler than simple online voice recording! Record yourself then send it to someone in an email! How about a short message of encouragement to someone? A song. A poem. Instructions. These can also be posted to the web!

Audacity An open source cross platform sound editor that is easy to use and is free (downloadable software)
Apple's GarageBand software makes it easy to record, edit and transfer your podcast to iTunes or anywhere you choose.
gCast Your own audio broadcast, where you can easily record voice messages, mix in your favorite music, and share it all for the world to hear. You can also upload a file and publish it on gCast. These basic services are free. You can "phone it in" using a toll-free number for an annual fee.
AudioPal Create your message using a mike and your computer, type in the text (text-to-speech), upload an audio file, or call a toll-free number. You'll be emailed a link to the embeddable player.

Portaportals - Social Bookmarking but in a very organized form. This is very easy for young students to find sites. Ex. Mary Frazier's Portal
Simply Box- Visual bookmarking! Set up a box with sites you want your students to visit, add your comments or instructions. Students can also comment back. Great for research - save the info from the web, rewrite it, link it to the site - virtual notecards!

Skype Skype is a voice over internet "telephone" service that lets you call other Skype users for free. With a webcam, you can make free video calls, too. Talk with authors, create collaborative projects, chat with experts--all for free! The Learning Librarian offers a manual (.doc) she developed for her school's Skype use. You might also want to see authors who will Skype with your school at the Skype An Author Network. Many authors will chat with your students for 10-15 minutes for free! You can also arrange longer Skype visits with them for a fee. (The fee is for the author, NOT for Skype. Skype is free!)
